Danfoss -  Huge Port Hybrid Support

 

Danfoss has signed contracts with Singapore-based companies to apply its marine electric propulsion system to the first new Fast Launch at a mega port.

The shipbuilding and marine industry is one of the projects Danfoss is focusing on in the Asia-Pacific region, and the company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with BOS, Penguin International, Durapower Technology, and Bureau Veritas (BV) to jointly design, develop and build plug-in hybrid electric-powered fast-runs in Singapore's mega ports.

The agreement can be seen as a significant step forward in reducing carbon emissions and taking steps toward eco-friendly sustainability in ship operations in one of the world's largest and busiest ports around the port of Singapore.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The partnership agreement, including Danfoss Editron equipment, is the result of long-term focus and collaboration between Barry Young and Editron teams with shipyards and systems integrators. The consensus was that education and confidence building were greatly needed in the conservative marine industry to boost the electric propulsion system as a way to reduce emissions, fuel consumption and noise at the port of Singapore. Green demo ships are commercially viable technologies and will benefit Singapore in the most efficient way to demonstrate new technology trends.

"This is a very important and exciting agreement for Danfoss," said Soren Kvorning, president of the Asia-Pacific region of Danfoss. The cooperation and technology are targeted at small ships, work boats and crew boats that are up to 50 meters long. The potential influence is considerable. There are currently about 4,000 ships in operation in the waters of Singapore," he said.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Penguin International will own and operate hybrid launches, and BOS will provide technical and commercial expertise in the development of plug-in parallel hybrid electric propulsion systems.

Danfoss and DuraPower will support the test and integration of power-driven trains and energy storage devices respectively, and the fast-runs will be entered as hybrid ships by BV.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The cooperation in this hybrid electric propulsion fast launch can be seen as a step on a new journey after Danfoss decided to expand its business in Singapore. Danfoss opened a new office and a shipbuilding application development center in Singapore in 2017 to cope with growing demand for energy efficiency technologies in the transportation sector due to infrastructure development as the economy in Southeast Asia grows.



"Danfoss's shipbuilding marine application development center is helping to grow innovation close to and together with customers at the system level for power management applications in various industries as well as the shipbuilding and marine industries. Overall, customer activity at ADC is helping many partners better manage climate issues, including the development of hybrid power systems for the marine industry," he stressed.
