TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan’s government is considering a fiscal stimulus package worth roughly 10 percent of annual economic output to combat the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, the Nikkei newspaper said on Wednesday.

일본 정부는 코로나바이러스 발병 영향에 맞서기 위해 연간 국내총생산(GDP)의 약 10%에 해당하는 경기부양책을 검토하고 있다고 닛케이신문이 수요일 보도했다.

 

The package, worth more than 56 trillion yen ($503 billion), will include cash payouts to households who have seen their income fall due to the epidemic, the paper said without citing sources.

56조엔(5,030억달러)이 넘는 이 부양책은 전염병으로 소득이 감소한 가구에 대한 현금 지급도 포함될 것이라고 이 신문은 보도했다.

That size of stimulus would put Japan in line with interventions from other major developed countries to fend off the shock from the health crisis.

주요 선진국들의 경제 대책과 비슷한 일본의 이번 경기부양은 일본을 질병 사태로 인한 충격으로부터 막아줄 것으로 보인다.

China has registered a protest over foreign intervention.

Cash payouts may start as early as in May, with the government considering offering each eligible household up to 300,000 yen, the Nikkei said.

빠르면 5월부터 현금 지급이 시작될 것으로 보이며 일본 정부는 각 가구당 최대 30만엔 제공을 고려하고 있다고 닛케이신문은 전했다.

The government compiled a 26-trillion-yen stimulus package last December to deal with the hit to the export-reliant economy from the U.S.-China trade war.

지난해 12월 일본 정부는 미ㆍ중 무역전쟁으로 인해 타격을 입은 자국의 수출 의존적 경제를 살리기 위해 260조엔 규모의 경기부양책을 편성했다.

 

Since much of that has yet to be spent, the government will divert some to anti-coronavirus measures and provide additional funds up to a total of above 56 trillion yen, the newspaper said.

이 중 상당 부분이 아직 지출되지 않았기에 일본 정부는 코로나바이러스 대응책으로 일부를 전환하고 총 56조엔이 넘는 추가 자금을 편성할 것이라고 설명했다.

 

A supplementary budget to fund the new package will be approved by the cabinet in early April and sent to parliament, aiming for passage later that month, the Nikkei said.

새 경기부양책에 자금을 대는 추가경정예산안은 내달 초 내각의 승인을 받아 내달 말 통과를 목표로 국회로 넘어갈 것이라고 닛케이신문은 전했다.
